I have been a fair bit lazy with the updates lately but there have have been a few things going on I couldn’t avoid. But I have come back with a vengeance with a beer that does just hit you for six it gives you a king hit to the face.

I have heard about the Grand Ridge Moonshine for a while but just had not got around to tasting itGrand Ridge Moonshine so when I had the opportunity last night I grabbed it. The beer itself it a dark scotch ale which packs a mean 8.5% alcohol, and unlike other high strength beers I have tasted you can really taste it here.

The beer has a strong ale flavor which reminded me much of a homebrew I made a few years back. It is of a very dark choclity color and a multitude of malty caramel flovors hit you when you consume this almost syrup! It has a nice creamy head which you would expect from any dark ale, and it also can pack more of a punch if you drink more than you should in the one night.

The makers of this beer from Grand Ridge are very proud of this beer which has won numerous awards at various beer festivals around the world, they even suggest that we use the moonshine as a marinade (I will have to get back to that later).

The amazing thing I found out later is that the moonshine isn’t even the big daddy of ales at Grand Ridge, they have a beer call the Supershine which has an alcohol content of 11%…. nice!

I had to overall give a thumbs up to the moonshine, I just wouldn’t advise you drink it all night..

Grand Ridge Moonshine thumbs up

I first saw this commercial a few months ago and I think I laughed for about a week! It’s a typical ad for the beer Hahn Super Dry, I will have to do a review on it pretty soon as I have never tasted it;

Back in my uni days we used to play this game with a pong table and way too much beer, it was simply known as Beer Pong. Imagine how amazed I was when I found out that beer pong has been played in the states since mid last century. I don’t know if one of my mates had heard about it and introduced us to it or if all great beer minds think alike, but we thought we were the only ones to play the great game.

I’m not a hundred percent sure on the rules of the US version, but ours consisted of your pong table,Beer Pong T-Shirt two cups and plenty of beer. The point of the game was to play pong normally but attempt to hit your opponents cup with the pong ball. If you managed to hit the rim or side they took a chug, and if you sunk the ball they had to knock off their whole drink. I had a quick look over other rules of beer pong and they seem to have a similar general rules, basically to play pong and get drunk!

In our uni days no one was particular wealthy but everyone had a good taste for the amber liquid, so we started brewing our own beer. This is where beer pong became particularly difficult, especially when we brewed a bad batch or if it was way too young and just tasted green! In fact I remember once or twice having to break the beer laws and mixing a little ginger ale or lemonade with the green beer so that we could play beer pong (don’t call it a shandy!).

Beer pong took up so much of our uni days that we actually started making up rules and laws of the game, I believe we call it the International Beer Pong Association (IBPA). The American version has actually got an association that runs the game called The National Beer Pong League (I don’t believe it is fully recognised though!!), maybe we should merge the leagues together and have international comps - anyone who has seen the movie Beerfest knows what that is all about.

To this day I still cannot believe I graduated uni at all thanks to the great game of beer pong, for anyone that hasn’t played it before you should give it a go..

In an unusual story from Fond du Lac in the states, a 22 year old lady has been charged with drink driving after she crashed into the back of a beer truck. This is no lie.. she crashed into the back of a bud light truck as that driver was trying to make a turn.

A Japanese company has recently got some international exposure after releasing a range of non-alcoholic beers designed for children. The Sangaria Company first made the ‘kids beer’ in cans and bottles, and they have now released kids versions of cocktails, wine and champagne.

It is believed that the beer actually tastes like fizzy grape juice, with the fizziness of the juice giving the making a perfect frothy head. And just to top things off the company has released the ‘kids beer’ in 6 packs, now if they can just put out some long necks and kegs the little guys should be right!

Can you image the outrage if a company in many other countries on earth attempted to make ‘kids beer’, they would be ousted and protested against until they close. It sort of reminds me of the fake cigarettes that used to be available years ago, they disappeared quickly after the whole smoking can hurt you era!

Here is a commercial of the beer from Japan, it’s really a good look isn’t it with 5 years olds at parties swilling frosty lagers;
